Welcome to The Happy Gardener!

Welcome to The Happy Gardener!

I am so happy you are here!

My name is Rikki and I am a Colorado native and a houseplant enthusiast. I started this blog as a way share my experiences as an indoor gardener.

Without a doubt, plant parenthood is incredibly difficult. There are so many factors to consider and navigating proper upkeep is something that takes time and experience. The aim of this blog is to build a deeper understanding of houseplants by examining factors such as where they natively grow so we can troubleshoot issues in a home environment.

“You must fail at gardening to master it.”

I have been keeping houseplants for about 6 years. I began my plant journey to furnish my turtle’s terrarium; I bought a set of ferns, and they were all dead within a month. As with my terrarium pursuits, my effectiveness in keeping houseplants as been grown over the years and continues to flourish.

I love my plants; they make me happy. There is something magical about watching a living thing grow and flourish because you cared for it. Some people have children, some people have dogs, I have plants, and a turtle.

This is Esmeralda. She is an ornate box turtle and a lifelong companion of mine. She is incredibly picky and stubborn. Currently, she is in a phase of only eating worms and refuses any fruits or vegetables I offer. Although we disagree on diet, she has always been a constant source of inspiration to me.

Throughout this blog series, you will learn why my partner and I innovated the classic planter and launched Happy Roots. We will cover a wide range of topics from the nuances of genera to soil types in effort to better understand how to care for our plants.

I appreciate you, my readers, for joining me in the pursuit of houseplant knowledge and  urban jungle nirvana. ☮

Happy gardening,
Rikki
